China Launches Online Platform to Track ‘Taiwan Independence’ Activities
This action comes at a time when Taiwan has started a campaign against residents possessing Chinese identity cards, and 14 people have already been informed that their household registration will be cancelled.
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council has included a “reporting section” on its website, encouraging the public to report harmful actions by individuals promoting “Taiwan independence” and those who aid them in persecuting Taiwanese citizens.
The office stated that this initiative aims to hold prominent “Taiwan independence” separatists responsible for their actions, as explained by council representative Chen Binhua.
In response, Taiwan has intensified its investigations into its citizens, particularly those with Chinese nationality, citing national security concerns.
This move coincides with Taiwanese regional president William Lai Ching-te’s announcement earlier this month of a comprehensive strategy to combat China’s attempts to "undermine" Taipei's “sovereignty.”
Lai accused China of increasing its "influence campaigns and infiltration" against Taiwan, vowing to implement measures to counter Beijing’s attempts to “absorb” the island.
